Last Day of School Changed to June 12, 2020

June 4, 2020

Dear Families,

On May 22, 2020, I submitted a request for a waiver to the Secretary of Education, Dan French. This request was for all of the schools in the Windham Northeast Supervisory Union. It was for the days that we had to close due to emergency weather or emergency conditions for the snow days of Dec 2, 2019, Feb 6, 2020, Feb 7, 2020, Feb.13, 2020.

In a response from Secretary French, he has approved the requested waiver for four (4) days associated with snow days on December 2, 2019, and February 6, 7, and 13, 2020. With these days being waived, the new day for the last day of school for students will be Friday, June 12, 2020, instead of the originally scheduled date of Wednesday, June 17, 2020.

The student’s last day for any new learning will be on Friday, June 5, 2020. This means that no new learning assignments or materials will be presented to the students. The remainder of school time from June 5th through June 12th will be used for wrapping up the school year with any final assessments that need to take place, daily meetings, and the collection of any outstanding work. All planned celebrations and graduations will remain as scheduled.

I would like to thank all of the parents for working with their schools during this difficult time. I know that it has not been easy for anyone. I would also like to share with all of you that as of today, the state of Vermont has not given Superintendents any indication of what school will look like in the Fall. As soon as we are given the directive from the Governor of when schools will re-open and what is expected from us, I will share it with all of you.

In the meantime, I wish you all the best as we continue to move forward during these difficult times.

Regards,

Christopher A. Pratt

Windham Northeast, Superintendent of Schools.
