A Parent’s Guide to COVID-19: When to stay home, get tested, and return to school

1. Check for any New/Unexplained* symptoms including:

  • ●Fever (100.4) or chills

  • ●Feels feverish

  • ●Cough, shortness of breath

  • ●Sore throat, nasal congestion, or runny nose

  • ●Fatigue

  • ●Muscle or body aches

  • ●Headache

  • ●New loss of taste/smell

  • ●Nausea/vomiting

  • ●Diarrhea

    * If a student has a documented chronic condition that accounts for symptoms, they are not considered “new/unexplained.” Please provide the school nurse with documentation from a medical provider.

    If yes at home...Isolate at home
    If yes at school...Student will be dismissed

2. When to Return to School...

If COVID-19 Tested

Not COVID-19 Tested

If symptoms improve within 24 hours:

Student may return to school after consulting with the school nurse

If symptoms DO NOT improve within 24 hours:

10 days after symptom onset

And

24 hours of NO fever (without meds)

And

Symptoms have improved

OR

Doctor’s note indicating alternate diagnosis and student can return to school

POSITIVE TEST

10 days after SYMPTOM onset And
24 hours of NO fever (without meds) And
Symptoms have improved

NEGATIVE TEST

24 hours of NO fever (without meds) And
Symptoms have improved

3. 14- Day Quarantine** if...

  • ●  Exposed to someone confirmed or suspected of having COVID-19 or

  • ●  Traveled to a yellow/red county

    **may “test out” after 7 days of quarantining
